Teachers

Ivy Giacchino-Berrocal loves being a Yoga teacher!  Naturally creative and spirited, she brings her entire self to her classes, and  is actively a teacher and student of Yoga.

Her education includes Chakra & Psychology study with Anodea Judith,
500-hr. Yoga Teaching Certification  from Starseed Yoga Center, with Jyoti Chrystal, Prana Vinyasa with Shiva Rea, Art & Yoga with Hari Kirin Kaur, Chanting with Manorama, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy with Dr. Marc Halpern, and a 500-hr. Advanced Yoga Teacher Training @ Yoga on Main which included Yoga & Ayurveda.

Ivy has also studied and is inspired by other forms of spirituality, such as Paganism. She doesn't believe that a Yoga class is all about Asana. She teaches a flowing style yoga that incorporates all 8 limbs of yoga.

Ivy is attentive to nature’s cycles and patterns. She lives and teaches accordingly, incorporating Ayurvedic theories into her practice and lifestyle.

Ivy has been blessed to have studied with many wonderful teachers, but says that her greatest yoga teacher is her newborn daughter, Lila Lakshmi. 'She teaches me what it is to be present and live in each moment and most of all to keep breathing.'

Anuttara Newfeld is a spirited modern dancer who began & continues her journey a student of Siddha Yoga Meditation.  In 1991 she completed hatha yoga training in the Iyengar tradition & led classes in both South Fallsburg & Manhattan Ashrams. A few years & twins daughters later led her to share yoga with children & families. In 2005 she received certification at Next Generation Yoga for Kids w/founder Jodi Komitor & that same year completed teacher training with Integral Yoga Institute. Stacy is an E-RYT with Yoga Alliance & has over 1000 hours of teaching experience. She continues to study at Kripalu in MA, most recently with yoga luminaries Shiva Rea & Gurmukh Khalsa. A life student of the body/mind, Stacy also completed studies in reiki & massage, using these in her classes which flow with breath & prana, restoring balance & ease. She believes that yoga is for everyone no matter what age or physicality. It keeps us connected to our hearts, creating fulfillment & a meaningful life, true 'bhakti shakti'.

Debby Kaminsky’s yoga journey since 1997 has taken her down many wonderful yogic paths and teachers.  She has gravitated most though to  Shiva Rea and prana vinyasa flow.  Her personal sadhana is a mix of this and ashtanga. Debby is passionate about flow because it can be tailored to the energy and desires of her class.  Her classes are fun and inspirational, leaving you ready to seize the day, yet in a calm state of mind.  Debby will teach anyone because she believes that everyone can benefit from some yoga in their life..  Debby is E-RYT with yoga alliance, holds two advanced vinyasa flow certifications through Shiva Rea's Samudra Global School for Living Yoga and has completed her 500 certification with her.  In her spare time, Debby likes to seize and enjoy all her moments including time with her family and dog or trying to catch a wave and stand up on her surf board, whack a tennis ball, get lost in NYC, read a great book, laugh (or act corny as her twin daughters say)…Net, for her is carpe diem.  For more information on Debby and what inspires her, see www.debbyoga.com

It’s said that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.  Seth Gopati Newfeld, RYT,  was ready in 1991 and he met his teacher, Gurumayi Chidvilasananda, who woke him up, gave him his name and set him on the path.  Gopati’s walked the path since then, being blessed to study with many other teachers who have helped shape his outlook on yoga off the mat as well as on.  Throughout the years his interest in holistic health has led him to study nutrition through various food techniques and supplementation in an effort to practice what has become his deepest purpose:  to serve others and to spread love.

Gopati’s classes are inspired by his studies and his life experience walking the path, and include a mix of vinyasa and hatha designed for beginners and experienced beginners, or anyone who simply wants to share the joy of honoring this most sacred vessel, the body.

Jennifer Hondru-Celestin has been an enthusiastic student of yoga, meditation and holistic health for over 15 years.  She holds a B.A. in music from Barnard College, Columbia University, and worked in the recording and financial industries before beginning her private healing practice in 2001.   Also a Reiki Master, in 2004, Jennifer completed the 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training at StarSeed in Montclair, where she studied with Jyoti Chrystal and Jason Martin.  She also completed the Holistic Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training with Kelli DeFlora at that time, and has been teaching ever since.  After a hiatus to be home with her now four-year-old twin girls, Jennifer is thrilled to be back in the yoga studio!
Jennifer’s classes draw on an eclectic mix of hatha yoga styles while focusing on breath and alignment. Deeply influenced by the teachings of her guru, Mata Amritanandamayi, Jennifer believes that the true essence of Yoga is found off the mat, in our daily lives.  No matter your level of practice, Jennifer’s goal is to guide and inspire her students to search deep within and discover their own unique relationship to Yoga.

Judith Rhodes got her yogic feet wet with Iyengar-inspired classes at Montclair’s Starseed Yoga three

years ago.  Excited with how the practice of yoga and pranayama improved her well-being (and all aspects of her life), she completed the 200-hour teacher training at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Wellness in Stock-bridge, Massachusetts studying with such dynamic teachers as Priti Robyn Ross and Devarshi Steven Hartman.  She continues to train periodically at Kripalu and will return there this summer to study with Ashtanga teacher Jonny Kest.
For the past twenty years Judith has pursued an interest in shamanism and shamanic healing.  Her teachers include Lynn Andrews; she currently studies energy medicine with Alberto Villholdo and the Healing the Light Body School.  Her interests are currently expanding to include Kundalini, meditation kryias, yoga nidra and exploration of subtle energies.
Judith is an artist — a professional actor with an MFA in theater from Trinity University.  She has read and performed in many venues in New York, the Northeast and throughout the U.S.  She also brought her one-woman show on the works of Charles Dickens to Scotland’s Edinburgh Festival.  She exhibits and sells her travel photography (she’s a passionate travel junkie!); and is currently writing a memoir.

Lynn Schoorl, RYT 500, is longtime practitioner of yoga, Lynn completed her 500 hour teacher training at Starseed Center for Yoga and Wellness in Montclair and also holds a 300 hour advanced certification through Yoga Synthesis. With a background in Iyengar and a love of vinyasa, her classes are a mixture of movement and alignment. Students are guided through a challenging vinyasa flow which facilitates the movement of energy in the body resulting in a feeling of being connected to yourself in a more authentic way.  Classes frequently include breath work and chanting honoring the broader teachings of this ancient practice.  Lynn is sincerely grateful to her early teachers Jyoti Chrystal and Madelana Ferrara-Matthias and is currently studying vinyasa with Raji Thron.

Nancy Witters, 500 RYT, brings her love of the Iyengar method to her teaching with a strong undercurrent of feminine (shakti) energy. Her style is intuitive, creative, and passionate, finding that attention to detail in the practice brings happiness and inspiration in life. Nancy is also passionate about food and loves to bake; she sees the joys and subtleties of food and yoga as some of life’s greatest gifts. Nancy trained at Starseed Yoga with Jyoti Chrystal. Her most influential teachers include Jyoti, Kofi Busia, Patricia Walden and Christopheray, with whom she continues to study. Married with 2 exceptional sons Nancy lives in Montclair, NJ and when she is not in the studio or in the kitchen she can be found walking any number of local nature trails with her kids.

Loryn Riggiola is a practicing lawyer for over 20 years and loves what she does.  She practices yoga to be a better lawyer and, practices law to be a better yogini.  It’s all about balance.  The scales of justice symbolize the balance of severity and mercy.  For the yogi, balance fueled by compassion is a key step toward enlightenment.  For most of us, living in the Himalayas and mediating for years in not a realistic option to further spiritual growth.  Loryn aims, through yoga, to guide those like herself, to live a more Spiritual life in this world.  In their everyday life, to live more consciously.

She began Spiritual study at a young age fascinated with the commonality of religions, and not their differences.  It is in these common precepts that she discovered what she believes in her Soul to be the Spiritual Truths.  For many years, she studied and practiced  meditation with her Spiritual Teacher to whom she is eternally grateful for the blessings and precious Teachings.  She became a certified pranic healer and continues her study of this healing modality.  She began a more serious physical yoga practice under the guidance and generosity of an old friend and renown yoga teacher, Seane Corn, who taught her to let the movement of her body express the essence of her Soul.

Loryn did not find yoga, it found her. Spirit has an uncanny ability to know our needs long before we know them ourselves. God deals each of us a hand, like a card game, challenging us to play the hand beyond our limits and our perceived talents. Karma is nothing more than how we play the cards. Some rounds have been misplayed, others over-played, all as we accept the challenges of life. One thing we never do is toss in the hand or a demand a re-deal, we stay in the game. If , through yoga, Loryn can inspire one soul to stay in the game, to play more carefully and consciously, then she will be reminded why yoga found her.

Loryn became a certified yoga teacher and completed her training at Yoga Synthesis and Lotus Yoga.  She is grateful to all her teachers, and above all, to the students who continue to inspire her to hold the cards more carefully and to play more consciously.
